Vladimir in 1955 graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of the Ural University, and in 1963 the directing department of VGIK.

In 1961-1963 he became a director of the Sverdlovsk film studio, since 1964 – of the Mosfilm film studio.

From 1963 to 2015, all the directorial and screenwriting works of Krasnopolsky were performed jointly with his second cousin Valery Uskov.

Thus, together they shot: “Shadows Disappear at Noon”, “Eternal Call”, “Ermak”, “Two Fates”, “Wolf Messing: Seeing Through Time” and others.
